Alright, it’s not really ugly but it is a bit plain. You’re visiting us in the midst of an experiment. We’re showing you the intermediate stages while we build out a new website and a new toolkit. Why? So we can document the process along the way.
We’ve been doing web design for many years but, like the cobbler’s children going barefoot, we never made a website for our own business. The reason’s pretty simple: we had enough work from referrals and didn’t want to take the time away from client work. That’s still the case, actually, but we finally decided to make ourselves a home on the web.
I often push back on my clients who want to go live with a website that still has “coming soon” text on some pages or other otherwise isn’t finished. It’s not as bad as the ’90s when you saw those “under construction” animated gif monstrosities all over the web. (Heck, you *still* see some of those pages that have been like that *since* the ’90s.) “Coming soon” text is still unprofessional even if it’s not as ugly.
But I maintain that this is different. This site is as finished as it needs to be based on where we are in the website development process.
